Large queen excluder with sealing plug.
The queen is placed directly on a comb with emerging brood without any accompanying bees. The queen excluder is then pressed into the comb so that the queen is confined to a limited area. Within a few days, a stable court of young bees develops, which are very receptive and therefore show little aggression towards a new or foreign queen.
Remove the cage after 8–10 days.
Important to note:
- Do not leave an old queen in the colony
- The colony should ideally be queenless (or have had the queen removed at least 6–24 hours beforehand)
- Ensure there is sufficient food and peace and quiet in the colony
- Check after a few days to see if the queen can be released
