The most important selection criteria for your lawn tractor are of course:
- How big is the mowing area?
- What is the terrain like—sloped? Flat?
- What is my budget?
- Is the mowing area very winding or are there many trees, flowerbeds, etc.?
The larger the area and the easier it is to mow, the wider the mower deck of the lawn tractor should be. In most cases, the cutting width is between 72 and 122 cm.

There are 3 basic types of lawn tractors:
- Lawn tractors with side discharge
- Tractors with a rear basket for mowing and collecting grass like a lawnmower. Many of these lawn tractors can also be used for mulching, usually with an optional mulching kit.
- Lawn tractors with a pure mulching deck
Lawn tractors with side discharge:
This variant combines high mowing performance and compact dimensions at a generally reasonable price.
The disadvantage of these tractors is, of course, that the cuttings have to be collected in a separate operation or take a relatively long time to decompose.
Lawn tractors with grass catcher:
The tractors offer the advantage of a perfect cut and catch result in one operation.
Small disadvantage: of course the clippings have to be disposed of somehow/somewhere and mowing corners is a bit difficult due to the mid-axle mowing deck.
Lawn tractors with mulching deck:
These tractors offer unmatched mowing performance (no need to empty the grass bag) and outstanding maneuverability. This is why these lawn tractors have become so popular in the professional sector and are also increasingly being used in private homes.
