Especially during long and sometimes extremely dry periods in summer, the topic of proper irrigation is on everyone's lips.
We have taken the liberty of compiling some tips for you in a compact form so that you can keep a cool head when watering your garden.
When should I water?
It's recommended to water in the evening, early morning, or even at night. This prevents the water from evaporating due to sunlight.
Avoid watering during the day on sunny and hot days (especially at midday). The water (if it doesn't evaporate immediately) acts like a magnifying glass on the leaves, and this can cause burns to the plant, or even, in the worst case, its death.
How much should I water?
As a rule, the plants should be watered every 2-3 days – daily watering is only necessary at extremely high temperatures (33°C +).
Please also keep in mind that plants that are sprayed too often and excessively throughout the year generally have an increased water requirement. By watering in moderation in early summer, the water requirement can be reduced in the summer.
When watering, you should focus on long-lasting, intensive watering so that the water can penetrate deeper soil layers and the root system receives sufficient water. In winter, the plant only requires a small amount of water; if necessary, you should water on frost-free days.
Of course, it is recommended (especially during dry periods) to take the water from suitable storage containers (rain barrels, IBC containers, water basins, underground tanks, etc.).
There are now countless options for application, from the classic watering can to a wide variety of pump systems such as submersible pumps, garden pumps, rain barrel pumps, domestic waterworks, etc.
Which pump is best suited for you depends on the local conditions, but in general we recommend, if possible, using a consistently flowing pump with a pressure switch (domestic waterworks or garden pump) for irrigation.
