In the case of fuel pumps, a distinction must be made between highly flammable substances such as diesel, heating oil, bio-diesel and the like and highly flammable fuels such as gasoline, aspen, gasoline mixtures, etc. are involved.
In the case of petrol pumps, the pump must be approved for these media and be explosion-proof. In most cases, a 230 volt model must be connected by a specialist company (electrician). Hand pumps for gasoline and gasoline mixtures are somewhat simpler and considerably cheaper.
There are two important distinctions with diesel pumps. Although inexpensive pumps are often self-priming, they are not dry-priming! - i.e. the pump must be filled before use. This is of course time-consuming and not very convenient. We therefore recommend that you check whether the pump is really self-priming in the sense that no filling is required.
Very high-quality diesel pumps with slide valve technology are installed in Faie tank systems - these pumps also suck in dry diesel or heating oil. This type of fuel pump is highly recommended, especially for yard filling stations, tank systems or use with diesel tanks.
The capacity of the diesel pump naturally depends on the size of your tank system or your fuel tanks. A capacity of approx. 50 l/min is usual and sufficient for most applications. For refueling larger vehicles, more power is of course recommended.

For smooth operation, it is important in practice that the pump is a so-called self-priming pump. Unfortunately, the term “self-priming” is no guarantee that the pump does not need to be pre-filled - such pumps are often offered as self-priming.
