AdBlue - filling stations

More and more tractors, agricultural machines and equipment, trucks and even cars have to be equipped with an aqueous urea solution AUS 32 (= AdBlue®) in order to achieve the exhaust emission values.

AdBlue® must not be exposed to direct sunlight. The optimal storage temperature is between -5 °C and +20 °C.

It freezes at -11 °C and should not be stored above +30 °C for long periods, since with increasing temperature the outgassing of ammonia increases and thus the urea concentration decreases.

All parts that come into contact with the liquid must be made of stainless steel or approved plastics, as the urea solution is highly pure and must comply with ISO 22241.

SAUGUT Urea AdBlue
From 2014, the new EU emissions standard Euro 6 came into force to further reduce pollutant limits. In order to achieve these new values (in an economical way), AdBlue is injected into the SCR catalytic converter.Additional positive effects:reduces nitrogen oxidesreduces particles &~ CO2environmentally friendly The ingredients are water &~ Urea

FAIE offers you a comprehensive range of AdBlue® tank systems and pumps!

AdBlue® is classified as slightly hazardous to water (WGK 1). Therefore, the relevant provisions of water law apply. These were summarized by the DWA (German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste) in Technical Rule TRwS 781-2. This rule covers the refueling of motor vehicles with aqueous urea solution from stationary storage tanks as well as from stationary, mobile tanks at motor vehicle filling stations, both public and private.

The content is considered to be state of the art and is binding for all operators, both for existing tank systems and for new systems to be constructed.

It must be avoided at all costs that AdBlue® enters the light oil separator or the sewer system.

For filling the storage containers and refueling the vehicles, a liquid-impermeable filling area with an effective range according to TRwS 781: 4.1.2 is therefore required.

storage containers

  • For volumes larger than 1,000 liters, the tank must be double-walled or have a retention capacity. In some federal states, a single-walled tank is permitted up to 10,000 liters according to the VAwS (Regulations on Wastewater Treatment Plants). Please clarify the requirements that apply to you with your water authority. We would be happy to advise you.
  • Storage containers must be equipped with an approved overfill protection device.
  • Collision protection in the form of, for example, curbs, guardrails, large boulders, etc.

Refueling of vehicles with AdBlue®

  • Self-closing nozzles must be used.
  • The retention capacity of the required filling area must be the volume of 5 minutes with the maximum pump capacity, but at least the maximum specified dispensing volume when using a fuel dispenser.
  • If this retention volume is not available without AdBlue® being able to enter the light oil separator or the sewer system, the requirement is deemed to be met if the locking catch on the nozzle is removed and it is ensured that the nozzle hose cannot be driven over.

Filling the storage container

For an outdoor filling area, rainwater does not need to be included in the retention capacity calculation if it is covered. The required retention capacity is R1 = 0.1 m³ when filling using a filling hose safety device (ASS) and R1 = 0.9 m³ when filling using devices with an attention button and emergency stop (ANA).

The entire existing retention capacity up to the oil separator may be used if there is a closure at a suitable location in front of it, which is closed when the storage tank is filled.

TIP: No retention capacity is required if:

  1. Filling hoses must be used in accordance with TRbF 50 Annex B or Directive 97/23/EC and operated in accordance with BG Chemie leaflet T 002.
  2. A full hose dispensing device with dry coupling is available.
  3. An immobilizer is used on the tanker.
  4. The filling of the storage containers takes place from a filling area in accordance with TRwS 781.
  5. The filling hose cannot be overrun (e.g. automatic hose reel with spring return without pawl).
